The Dordogne-Great For Kids
Many of the listed attractions are within easy reach, some just 20 minutes
away.
Aquarium
Parc - the largest private outdoor freshwater
aquarium with different fish displayed in a 300m underwater
gallery. There is an insect zone with a glass-hive housing 80,000
bees. Special events during the day: feeding with the public, dive-feeding
of sturgeon and carp, and a diver show.
Museum of Le Thot – prehistoric
theme park with live animals that would have lived in prehistoric times,
animatronics mammoth that roars, a reproduction of the largest of the
Lascaux caves, Introductory workshops on wall paintings showing the
techniques of prehistoric art using natural pigments and there is an "excavation
module" which simulates an archaeological
dig.
Le Bournat is
a large open air museum with a reconstructed village showing life in
1900. Animals on a farm ,a working
windmill,traditional bread making, basket weaving, reed
cutting, wool spinning, pottery making, an old-fashioned
fair with amusement rides for little kids - all included in the price.
You can even dress up the whole family and have a ‘bygone era’ sepia
photograph taken for an additional charge.
Jacqou Park - near Le Bugue has an
animal parc with farm animals from around the world like llamas & angora
goats, an aqua parc and amusement parc with a bouncy castle and rides,
a mini-golf and a snack area.
Roque
St. Christophe is a huge Troglodyte
cave complex about a half mile in length, this majestic cliff rises
vertically above the Vezere valley to a height of over 250ft. It is
like a huge hive with about 100 caves hollowed out of the rock on five
tiers. Neanderthal fossils have been found at this site.
Gouffre
de Padirac is a crystalline cave
with stalactite and stalagmite formations. You descend into the cave
via elevators, then you take a 700m underground boat trip through
the river cave . The tour continues on foot past beautiful pools,
caverns, stalactites and waterfalls. Outside there is a shady park,
games area, picnic spot, several restaurants.

Forest Perigord in Carsac/Sarlat - Five
courses are available the smallest being suitable for 5 year olds.
Chateau Milandes - Former
residence of Josephine Baker, has enough entertainment to captivate
the whole family. Children will enjoy a birds of prey show or the art
of falconry in an enchanting setting.
Hanging Gardens of
Marqeyssac - During
the summer each Thursday evening the gardens are lit by candlelight
and various musicians play in different parts of the garden. A magical
experience not to be missed.
Watersports-Waterskiing,wakeboarding, knee boarding,
sailing – available at a watersports center in Rouffiac, a 40 minute drive. This center has a small beach, pedalos , canoes sailboats
for children and novices are available for hire.
Horseriding & Beach - a small shingles beach and
equestrian center where pony and horserides are available Domaine
de Favard in Tamnies, 25 minutes away. Another horse center nearby.
Minigolf in Montignac -10 minutes away. Other activities are: Quad bikes,
helicopter rides, boat tris (called Gabarre).

The Hat Festival |
- There are many Festivals during
the summer such as Hat festival-above, Mime festival, International
festival in Montignac a lot of which culminate in fireworks displays.

Canoeing down the Dordogne |
- Spend a day in a canoe drifting down the Dordogne
River gently passing Chateau Beynac, Castlenaud and fascinating villages
like La Roque-Gageac. Safe for children (lifejackets are
provided). Bring a picnic. You can take as long as
you want, stop wherever and whenever you want along the way.

40 minutes away with everything for the whole family :a lake for
swimming and fishing, canoeing or pedalo riding; 3 waterslides ,
3 swimming pools catering to different age groups,paddling pool for toddlers, water jets

adults can play volleyball, table tennis, petanque; see saws, swings,
a sandpit and a restaurant.
- Markets (night and day)
and during the summer there is one every day in the area; local food
fayres with bands performing, and stalls selling meat and local
produce.
